Outfit: She's a wolf, and therefore, naked. However, it should be noted that not everyone can necessarily see Amaterasu's true form. Those with belief in gods or possessing some kind of ability to perceive divine/supernatural beings are able to either see the entirety of her true form or only faintly see it. Otherwise, she appears little different than a white wolf/large dog.

❥ Folkmore Roles & Attributes

Skills: Amaterasu is capable of wielding glaives, reflectors, and rosary. In other words, she can use swords, shields, and whips with the divine nature of the instruments allowing her to use them in additional ways. Ammy is good at digging and holds a record of being the best digger in Kamiki Village. She is also a talented artist and uses her Celestial Brush (i.e. her tail) to paint beautiful art.
Canon Abilities: Amaterasu is a master of all Celestial Brush techniques with the exception of Guidance and Magnetism, which were introduced for her son in Okamiden. It should be noted that Ammy's brush techniques are often observed as just natural phenomena for those that are unaware of her true form. She is also not able to do all of these abilities at once or infinitely, the latter require a special item that offers her a temporary infinite amount of ink to work with.

In terms of other offensive capabilities, she also possesses the ability to turn her poop in to bombs through a technique known as Brown Rage (don't ask) and pee on enemies for damage through a technique known as Golden Fury (...no really, don't ask). Lastly, as mentioned above, Amaterasu is able to tap into the power of divine weapons known as divine instruments to be able to pack a little extra hurt on the demons she faces.

Ammy has the character action/platformer staples of being able to wall jump and double jump in the air. Ammy is also made stronger by receiving praise/prayer from others, and through the use of various prayer scrolls can sometimes gain greater strength or defense temporarily.

While she's not invincible, she possesses a defensive godhood that allows her to essentially tank a few hits before it will actually damage her. She also possesses four astral pouches that are filled with food that will allow her to essentially cheat death once per full pouch. Divine snacks are the quickest way for her to restore her own vitality when needed.

Lastly, Amaterasu also has her own hammerspace for carrying items with her.

In terms of some weaknesses that come about as part of her abilities that should be noted, Ammy has a natural weakness to darkness (as in the metaphysical/spiritual kind that she can sense, not light-based) both to those that she is capable of cleansing and those that she might need to work a bit harder to do so. If there is some form of curse or oppressive evil, Ammy is susceptible to becoming weaker in its presence or may not even be able to cross the threshold without coming to harm into it depending on its strength. As a sun deity, she's also not particularly good with water. She can tolerate getting wet a little bit, but too much and she will start to weaken.

Flowers also bloom behind her as she runs with greater blooms as she gains speed.
Role: Legend
Role Qualities/Attributes: Just the development of the ability to sense when others are in need nearby. Ammy already possesses a lot of the traits by virtue of what she is in terms of durability, strength, etc. since she's normally out there fighting demons and such.
Role Reasoning: While an argument could be made that Ammy fits the role of a Familiar given her nurturing nature, she is always bound by the sense of good and could never uphold that neutral position of a Familiar. Ammy and Issun also have a motto of "Leap before you think!" that they apply to every situation where they must go somewhere dangerous to protect or otherwise save others. In terms of plans for how this will play out in FM, Ammy is likely to continue on with the same as she was back home. As a mother goddess, it's really her role to be caring for everyone around her. But she may need a little tempering from others to help keep her own furball self safe.

❥ Personality

❥ What is the most important and defining relationship(s) in your character's life and why?
Everyone! The thing about Ammy is that no one is too big or small to have her attention or support. She spends the entirety of the story in Okami helping people with smaller, everyday problems like drying laundry, catching fish, or opening up a hotspring, and that is just as important to her as the big stuff like putting a stop to great demons that would otherwise destroy and terrorize Nippon. But what makes these relationships so important is that they save Ammy in the end, too. When the chips are down and she's without power, lost in darkness, every person she helped along the way prays for her when they notice the sun has disappeared. It brings the sun back out and returns her power and strength to her so that she can defeat Yami once and for all. Basically, Ammy loves and cares about everyone around her no matter what, but she is also strengthened and made into what she is through their support as well. A god, after all, is nothing without their followers and as Issun put it, you cannot always just ask for help from them. Sometimes you need to return the favor and show your appreciation/devotion!

❥ What is your character's moral code? Do they have one? Why or why not?
It might be easy to assume that Ammy's moral code is simply whatever is evil must be destroyed and that's it considering what she is and represents. However, it's arguable that Ammy's moral code is a little less rigid than thing good or thing bad. For example, she actually doesn't attack all demons immediately on sight! It really all depends on whether or not they are aggressive towards her that determines how she will respond. So, when the guards outside of Orochi's castle are non-aggressive towards her and simply shoo her away (and even feed her some snacks!), Ammy does not go ham on them and wallop them! When a sentient scroll meant to prevent her progress simply challenges her to tricky footraces, she accepts the challenge rather than seeking to destroy the scroll itself. In other words, Ammy really only seeks to cleanse evil beings if they are actively causing or seeking to do harm, but if they seek another way of life, she is willing to foster that just as much as any other being. The most important thing to Ammy is that everyone is given the opportunity to grow so long as that does not infringe upon others.

❥ Is your character capable of forgiveness or will they hold a grudge until they die? Would anything ever make them change their mind?
Ammy is capable of forgiveness. Although it's a rare thing for others to necessarily outright wrong her, she is sometimes met with a bit of hostility or doubt from those she meets along the way. Ammy is capable of recognizing that people who react/respond that way often are doing so from a place of fear or hurt, and that it's not an inherent maliciousness or somehow mean they aren't deserving of love and compassion just as much as everyone else. As such, it would really be an impossible thing for Ammy to ever reach a point with someone else where she would be unwilling to forgive them. She believes far too much in the good of others and their capacity to grow to really hold a grudge over some wrongdoing, and she recognizes that it's often from such mistakes one grows the most.


❥ What famous folklore, legend, or myth would you associate your character with? Are they literally inspired by Snow White? Do they have similar struggles or energy as Red Riding Hood?
As one may have guessed, she is based upon the Shinto goddess, Amaterasu. While at first glance, it may seem that she does not have much in common with her real world counterpart given the specifics of the myths not aligning with the story in Okami, Ammy still bears aspects of the Shinto goddess. For example, Amaterasu is known to be the goddess of creation, a role she inherited from her father, and her role as a sun goddess means that she is considered to be a nurturer to all living beings. Regarding the former, this is reflected in how much of Ammy's abilities involve creation and nurturing from running and leaving behind blooms of flowers (even in the icy parts of Nippon) to her decision to invest in both people and animals around her. Indeed, Ammy spends time feeding animals she meets along the way and treats them with the same respect and dignity that she would a human. Despite taking the form of a predator, Ammy's very presence is essentially considered to be a comforting one and people do not respond to her with fear, often sharing with her their dreams and/or fears, to which Ammy does her best to help.
